Visual Innovation — What Gets Made Visible Creates Impact.

What companies gain through visualization in the context of innovation, and how the verrocchio Institute supports them.

Why Visual Innovation

Language alone is not enough. What isn't visible cannot be changed.

In most companies, innovation is negotiated primarily through language: in meetings, presentations, and emails. The problem isn’t language itself — it’s the transience of what gets created in the process. Ideas that were only spoken disappear. Strategies that only live in texts get lost. Complexity that isn’t made visible remains threatening.

Visual Innovation is the approach we put against this. It is not a method for creative professions, and not a soft skill on the margins of a process. It is a tool for everyone who wants to make innovation effective. Entirely independent of drawing talent, hierarchy, or industry.

The principle behind it is as simple as it is powerful in practice: what gets made visible creates impact. An idea that comes alive visually on paper is more tangible than one that stays inside someone’s head. A strategy told as a picture finds more allies. In short: an innovation status that is visualized generates clarity — and with it, the ability to act.

The Challenges That Visualization Solves

In our work with teams and leaders, we encounter the same recurring patterns. They are genuinely not exceptions — they are the rule.

Innovation initiatives are stuck, even though ideas exist.

The problem isn’t a lack of ideas, it’s a lack of clarity. Teams discuss without anyone really knowing what they’re discussing. Visual Innovation creates the shared picture that’s missing.

Strategies are understood, but not lived.

A strategy that exists as a slide deck doesn’t change behavior. A strategy told as a picture that everyone knows and that is visible everywhere — that’s a different matter.

Workshops produce many post-its, but also a lot of confusion.

Many innovation workshops produce quantity, but not overview. What’s missing is a visible result that can leave the room, remain tangible and accessible to everyone, and serve as a point of orientation — in the long run.

Complexity paralyzes everyone.

The more complex a challenge, the more important it is to make it visible. Complexity that is visualized loses its threat, becomes manageable, and it becomes clear which steps are the right ones.

Ideas fail because nobody understands them.

An idea is of little use if it can’t be communicated. Even the best idea doesn’t travel far on grand words alone — it simply doesn’t stick. Those who have learned to convey ideas visually, making them comprehensible to everyone, convince others faster and, above all, more effectively.

The Innovation Image — A Format That Creates Clarity

At the center of Visual Innovation stands the Innovation Image: a visual artifact created together in a focused working day, which makes the current innovation status of a team or organization visible.

The process is designed not only to produce a picture, but to generate clarity in the very act of its creation. Teams that develop an Innovation Image together synchronize their understanding, name the Innovation Fog — the diffuse lack of clarity that paralyzes many innovation initiatives — and create a shared starting point from which the next step becomes visible.

The principle: the Innovation Fog is the phenomenon we observe in almost every company: teams have ideas, but no shared view of them. Everyone sees something different and nobody sees the whole. The Innovation Image makes the whole visible.

The Innovation Image is not a classic workshop output. It is a tangible, visual artifact. A picture that can hang on the wall, that can be presented in leadership meetings, that serves as a point of orientation. And it is created in a single, focused day. The whole process is accompanied by Christina Westing as Visual Innovation Coach.

How We Support: Three Paths That Have Proven Themselves

Depending on the starting point and goal, we work at different levels. Visual Innovation is not an isolated offering, but a cross-cutting theme that runs through all of our formats.

Flipchart Training

For everyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of visualization themselves: visual vocabulary, layout, tools, and the foundations of Visual Innovation. No drawing talent required. What we need here is the willingness and the curiosity to make the invisible visible.

The Innovation Image

A focused working day with 3 to 6 leaders. Result: a visual artifact that makes the current innovation status visible and allows the next step to become clear.

Graphic Facilitation & Recording

For large events, strategy offsites, and important decision-making processes: Christina Westing visualizes live what emerges in the room — so that results remain visible.
